Biography

Molly Weinstein (she/her) is a trans woman and writer-director from Chicago, IL passionate about stories that encourage audiences to live authentically and embrace change. Molly's creative practice centers on strong collaborative relationships, drawing from lived experience, and collaboration with other filmmakers whose identities have been historically excluded from the film industry.
With a strong background in improvisation, Molly believes embracing spontaneity is vital to creating nuanced and authentic stories. Molly cares deeply for her collaborators and advocates fiercely for them in order to make impactful work. She believes that good leadership requires kindness, humor, bravery, and accountability. Her debut short “solvitur tondendo,” has been featured at the Seattle Queer Film Festival 2021, the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival 2022 and the Minneapolis Institute of Art, one of the nation’s largest art museums. Her short film, “Claire Bikes,” is currently being submitted to film festivals, and her upcoming 16mm trans short film, “Liza,” is currently in post-production.

Starred in "Artemis," an award-winning queer short film about LARPing. Screened at Woodstock Film Festival 2020, Harkat 16mm Film Festival 2020, Phoenix Shorts 2021, Hudson Valley Film Fest 2021, Fringe! Queer Arts and Film Fest 2021 and won Best LGBTQ+ Film at GeekFest Toronto. 2021.
